Santanu Dey
Santanu Dey (b. 1991) is a photographer with a Post Graduate Diploma in Photography from Counter Foto - A Centre for Visual Arts, Dhaka, Bangladesh (2020). Dey has participated in several exhibitions, contests and photography festivals including Vantage Point 10, Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE (2022), Indian Photo Festival (IPF), Hyderabad (2022), Educating the Eye contest, Associació Fotogràfica Educant la Mirada, Spain (2022), Fotofestival - International Festival of Photography in Łódź, Poland (2022) to name a few. Recently, he received an honourable mention at the Indian Photographer of the Year (IPOY)Award (2022), and wonthe POY Asia Award on Cultural Practice (2021). His works have been published in Witness Magazine by the World Press Photo Foundation (2021), and Alternative South Asia Photography Art(ASAPArt)(2021).
Dey’s work attempts to dive deep into mythology, cultural narratives and socio-political issues. Through a collaborative and research-based practice rooted in documentary photography and cultural anthropology, Dey tries to tell stories of his personal experiences regarding contemporary social issues, particularly India’s Partition and post-Partition conditions and social structure.
